Say hello to a brand new PhotoStructure! #
We’re really excited by what’s in this new release: thanks to our beta users for their help and their feedback!
If you’ve already signed up for beta access, expect an invitation email with installation instructions soon.
🧭 Easier navigation #
Click the new top-left navigation button for access to root tags, settings, help, and control over background processing:
If you use PhotoStructure for Desktops on Windows or Linux:
- hit the
altkey to toggle a new menu bar.
- the title bar is now native and easier to use.
🚅 Faster imports and UI 💨 #
We rewrote PhotoStructure’s work scheduler and persistence layer to run substantially faster than in prior versions, especially during library imports. See our #protips for more information.
🏷️ Hierarchical keyword support #
PhotoStructure now extracts hierarchical keywords with new tag and pathname heuristics. See our keywords guide for more details.
🔄 Robust rotation support #
When you rotate your photos or videos with PhotoStructure, it now examines the image content in all asset file variants for the asset you rotated, and ensures they all share the same visual orientation.
Note that rotation is a non-destructive operation by writing a sidecar with the
orientation next to your original. This behavior can be changed to edit in place
🖥️ Frontend updates #
- ✨ 🔎 See small, medium, or large thumbnails when viewing tags:
- ✨ 🔎 New loupe slider for zooming into your photos:
✨ 💬 Chat widget on the settings and about pages. You’ll be connected directly to either the CEO or Lead Typist of PhotoStructure, Inc. (both of which happen to be me).
✨ More download options: You can now download the original, large, medium, and small resized versions of your images. These smaller versions are handy for emails or texts, and are available via the
⋮button in the asset info panel (hit
ior click the “i” in the upper right corner while viewing a photo)
✨ Navigate by file type

👍 Thanks to our testers, this will be our last beta version #
We’ve provided free access to our beta builds in exchange for your feedback, and we really appreciate the thought and guidance our early users have shared with us.
If this is the first version of PhotoStructure you’re trying out, please share your feedback and ideas with us, both good and bad, at [email protected].
Your feedback is critical in making PhotoStructure better for you.
This version will be the last released before PhotoStructure becomes generally available:
There will be free and paid subscription tiers.
Personal annual subscriptions will be less than $50/year.
Discounts will be provided to the beta users that have provided us with feedback.
Both free and paid users can share a discount code to friends and family that will be applied to their subscription fee as well (“stacking” discount codes).
Are you a developer, maintainer, or contributor of any of the open source libraries that PhotoStructure uses? Just send us an email and we’d be delighted to get you set up with a free personal license.
