Corrupt library database
Database corruption is rare but can happen after power loss, disk errors, or incomplete shutdowns.
Your original photos are safe. PhotoStructure doesn’t modify your source files. Only the library database (which indexes your photos) may be affected.
How to fix it
- Shut down PhotoStructure
- Delete the
.photostructuredirectory inside your library folder (see uninstall guide for platform-specific instructions) - Restart PhotoStructure
PhotoStructure will rebuild your library from scratch by re-scanning all your photos. Depending on your library size, this may take hours.
Note: While PhotoStructure keeps database backups in .photostructure/models/backup/, restoring these manually isn’t recommended. The database would be out of sync with generated previews, requiring a rebuild anyway.
Prevention
- Use a UPS to prevent power loss during writes
- Don’t force-kill PhotoStructure; let it shut down cleanly
- Keep your disk healthy (check SMART status)
